The Completion and the Start

Posted by caledoniancraig on March 13, 2016 at 8:20 AM Comments comments (0)

In the last few day the writing phase of my fourth book On the Buses: The Filming Locations has been completed. The book will contain over 450 photogrphs, more than 200 filming locations from the TV series and spin-off films and directions on how to reach each location in a book spanning almost 70,000 words.

With the writing completed it is time to move into the pre-publication stage with contact being made with publishers and printers. The book will be proof-read and will go through type-setting and the embedding of the photographs into the manuscript. Also a front cover will need designing and thoughts are on possible venues/dates for a possible book launch event.

This project will be a first on two fronts for me as a writer. It will be my first book to contain hundreds of my own photographs and to go through the family's publishing company - Caledonian Books. Very exciting times.

For breaking news continue to visit the website as the next few weeks sees the book move closer to publication. Well enjoy your Sunday and more from me soon.

A Hectic Time

It is a hectic time just now on the writing front as my fourth book On the Buses: The Filming Locations races towards completion. Upscaling of photographs is well underway and with a bit of luck I hope to complete this task within the next week. After that task it will be time for the manuscript to undergo the proof-reading stage and then onto the final stage - publication.

Elsewhere on the writing front my first book On The Buses: The Complete Story has had its latest sales figures released and it is fast approaching 5,300 copies sold. My second book The On The Buses Quiz Book is undergoing preparation to go into print for the first time after almost four years in existence as an e-book. At present a publication date is set for the end of July.

Finally, I will be busy over the last weekend in June in Borehamwood where I will be selling and signing copies of On The Buses: The Complete Story and An A To Z of On The Buses on the last Friday and Saturday of that month at the ninth On The Buses event weekend which I am organising.

Well that is all for now on the writing front and until the next blog - take care.

An Enjoyable Weekend

Last weekend was an enjoyable one with a good chance to relax before cracking on with the next phase of my latest book. On Friday night I took in The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon at The Harold Pinter Theatre in London. Very enjoyable with great music and some revealing incites into the great band. I would recommend it highly to anyone. On Saturday I headed to Westminster to the Central Hall to help out at The London Film Conventiom and on my way there I passed a building with an On the Buses connection - Caxton Hall. It was here some 45 years ago that the late, great Bob Grant married Kim Benwell. At the Central Hall it was great to meet Sally Thomsett, Andria Lawrence, Dinah Gillespie, Caron Gardner and Georgina Moon - all stars of the big and small screen. I also signed and sold copies of the paperback version of On The Buses: The Complete Story and enjoyed chatting to a couple of purchasers about the book and the sitcom and its stars.

At the end of this week I hope to really set about the monotous task of upscaling the photos that will appear in my next book - On the Buses: The Filming Locations. It should be the penultimate stage of the manuscript's preparation before the book can enter the publication phase. Well that is all for now but watch this website for the updates on my writing projects.

Well Wishes Anna

Through a local newspaper article posted on social media yesterday I was saddened to read that the great actress Anna Karen is suffering with a serious back injury. It has reduced her to sleeping on her sofa for the past two months as she awaits a specialised bed to aid her recovery. My thoughts are with you Anna and I hope you are back in much better health soon and reprising your role as Aunt Sal in EastEnders. Of course Anna is better known as Olive in the classic sitcom On the Buses and she has graced the majority of the events I organise in Borehamwood each summer. I hope you are able to attend and in better health by then.

Onto more pleasant matters now and my latest writing project saw another stage completed earlier this week. A visit to Prestatyn, North Wales was undertaken on Wednesday to photograph the final location for my book. The photography stage is now complete (unless more locations are unearthed) and it has been an interesting, sometimes dangerous but ultimately a nostalgic experience. The next stage of the project promises to be more monotonous as the task of upscaling the photos that are to appear in the book will begin.

Okay I will end now and best of luck today to my fellow countryman Andy Murray.

Winter Arrives but the Writing Goes on

Over the weekend London saw its first snow of the winter as temperatures have plunged. It comes at a time when I continue organising the 2016 On the Buses event which will be staged at Elstree Studios and promises to be a superb weekend of entertainment.

Despite the cold weather and event organising the work on my latest book On the Buses: The Filming Locations goes on. Aside from discovering another filming location and visiting it to photograph it another filming location in South London was today visited and photographed. Only one location remains to be visited and photographed and this will mean another visit to Prestatyn in the next week or so.

Sadly, today whilst making a fleeting visit to Borehamwood I did notice that the sad demise of a filming location seen in Mutiny on the Buses was underway. The gas cylinder, a hundred metres to the south of Elstree and Borehamwood's train station, that is seen briefly in the second On the Buses spin-off with a police patrol car beside it was in the early stages of being dismantled. Pretty soon the location will be no more.

Well that is all for now but I shall blog again soon.

A Sad Blog to Start

First of all I hope you enjoy this new addition to the website in what has been generally a sad week. The death of the iconic pop star David Bowie rocked the nation and the suddenness made it harder for many to take. People may list him as a pop star but he was more than that - he was an artistic pop star who was constantly re-inventing himself many times and remained influential to so many in the music industry. For me his best work was Starman, Life on Mars, Space Oddity, Ashes to Ashes, Jean Jeanie, Changes and Let's Dance but he has left us all with a superb catalogue of fantastic music. He may be gone but the Starman is now up there amongst the stars in heaven.

A few days before David's sad passing it was Ed Stewart the disc jockey who passed away. I remember him from my youth as presenter of Crackerjack on BBC1 on Fridays but he will be best remembered and held in high esteem as a disc jockey. By those that knew him and met him he was a genuinely nice bloke who will be sadly missed by many.

On the writing front due to work I have not been able to do too much work on my latest book On the Buses: The Filming Locations but I hope to change that over the next few days during a few days off work. More locations (probably two) will be visited and photographed as the project edges towards completion. At present a completion date would be a bit premature as there are stages of the project to come that can be very time consuming such as upscaling photographs that will appear in the book and it going through the proof-reading stage.

Well I will close this first blog and watch this space for another in the near future.....
